Did you know that a lot of times moms who stay at home consider starting a direct sales business because they think it will be easy to work while their children are napping? What they discover is it’s hard to work a business for two hours a day and be successful. Most kids nap for a couple hours a day and that’s it. How many phone calls and presentations can you do in a two hour period each day? Probably not very many if I had to guess. No matter how organized you are and how hard you try, it’s almost impossible to get a lot of calls and presentations completed in this time frame. As a work at home mom myself, I can tell you this was one problem I had when I was in direct sales. I was limited as to the time I could work my business and that made it very difficult to work. Here are a few suggestions I can make that will help you with the ease of working a business with limited hours in a day. • Schedule your time If it’s at all possible, schedule nap time for the same time each day, so you can schedule appointments accordingly. Now you must understand this won’t always work, but for the most part it will. You will need to let your potential customers know that you are a work at home mom and things may change. Schedule appointments for the time you have before the children get up. This may be a little difficult if you only deal with people locally, but if you do business online, it will work. If you are on the West coast, you can schedule appointments with people on the East coast because you may have a two or a three hour difference. For example, if you are in California, you could make a 7 am appointment with someone in New York and it would be 10 am their time. Another option is to make appointments for the time after your children go to bed. • Hire a Virtual Assistant Hiring a Virtual Assistant is a great way to save yourself some time. You can do this in one of two ways. You can have your VA make calls for you and schedule the time on your calendar. If you give your VA a script and a list of phone numbers, she can schedule the appointments, so all you would have to do is the presentation and the follow-up. The other option is to have your VA add your appointments to your calendar, network for you, write and post blog posts, and write and submit articles for you. Networking, blog posts, and articles are a great way for people to find you and build trust with your target market. Working from home could be a dream for any woman, whether you stay at home or you work full time outside the home. Thinking it is easy and you can work it around your family, could be a different story. If you put these tips to work for you, working your business around your family will be a little easier.
