Regardless of what business you are in when you are on the phone with a prospect it's extremely important that you speak with confidence. People can sense your level of confidence over the phone. So just because you're not face to face it does not mean that they can't feel it. Here's a few ways to convey confidence while on the phone. #1 SMILE! Anyone that's ever been in sales has heard the trick of putting a mirror on your desk and look at yourself to make sure you remember to smile. It is so true and I'll prove it. Do this little experiment: talk to your spouse or a friend from another room where you can't see each other. Smile during some of the conversation and not during other parts of the conversation. I promise you can hear the difference. #2 Sit Up! How you sit can effect how you sound on the phone. Pretend that you are in a live interview across a desk. When you're speaking to your prospects over the phone it is like an interview. They are listening to you like an interviewer would listen and they are thinking if they want to be on your team. Good posture will help your confidence. #3 Avoid Nervous Laughter Genuine laughter is great but often times a new rep will get nervous on the phone and it will come across to the prospect. If you tend to have nervous laughter you won't emit any kind of confidence. Your prospect will hear it and get the idea you don't know what you are talking about and that you have little confidence in your business. Do not ruin a perfectly good business call by laughing out of nerves. You might think it's nothing but it really can ruin your credibility over the phone. #4 Stare at Something I'm sure this sounds crazy and pointless. You'll just have to take my word for it. Keeping eye contact on a specific spot like you would look someone in the eye in person can really help how you come off over the phone. Find a spot on the wall or put up a poster if you need to, just maintain "eye" contact and you will sound much more professional and confident. #5 Enunciate the Last Consonant of Every Word One of the worst things you can do if using a script is read way too fast. Talking too quickly is one of the first signs someone is nervous. It's a widely known trick that if you focus on the last consonant of each work it is impossible to speak too quickly. Choose your words carefully and speak with authority. Don't use words like "um" and "uh" if you don't know what to say take a beat and start when you're ready.. By following these simple tips you will come across more professional and confident. People are attracted to confident professionals so it will go a long was to helping you build a successful home based business.
