Selling Online to Moms - Three Ways Content Can Make Your Site a Mom Magnet

By: Denise Willms

It's a common thread I see in websites that cater to the mom market. They're focused on getting mothers to visit their websites, but not on getting those same visitors to come back.

These business owners seem to think that a new visitor will become a customer the first time they click through to the sales page, but - unfortunately for them - that's usually not the case. More often, a new visitor will need to visit you or hear from you several times before they're ready to make that first purchase.

Website owners who focus on getting the initial mom traffic, but don’t develop strategies to encourage repeat visits are missing out on the lucrative mom market. But you don’t have to fall into that trap.

Here are three easy ways you can use content to turn your site into a mom magnet.

1. Offer a high-value free report or ebook in exchange for an email address. While most first-time visitors won’t buy from you immediately, there’s a good chance they’ll leave you their email address in exchange for a report or ebook. Then you can follow up with them and let them know about your products and services, and new additions to your site.

For this strategy to work well, it's important you know what is truly valuable to your target market. Do your research and offer a freebie they can't refuse.

2. Regularly add new, informative content to your site. Visitors will return if they know you have something of interest they can't find anywhere else. You may even want to create a special section entitled "New!" and list all your new content and information there. This will tell your visitors that you have updated your site recently, and repeat visitors head to that section right away to check out your recent additions.

If you don't like to write, or don’t have the time, consider outsourcing your content to a ghostwriter who specializes in content for moms.

3. Add informative, high-quality reprint articles to your website. Some site owners cringe at the thought of placing someone else's content on their website, but if you want to turn a first-time visitor into a long-term customer, this could be one of the smartest moves you make.

Think of it this way: moms go online to find information. You can either give them what they're looking for, or they'll go somewhere else to find it. I would guess you would rather have them stay at your site, instead of visiting your competition.

If you're selling online to moms, what's your strategy to keep them coming back for more? If you don't actively encourage repeat visits, you could be missing out on potential sales. By using the methods I've listed above, you can turn your website into a mom magnet and reap the profits from this lucrative market.
