The ABCs or Basic Guidelines of Brochure Printing

By: Kaye Z. Marks

Whether you are a professional printer or a design beginner, there are simple guidelines you need to follow in brochure printing. These guidelines will allow you to avoid mistakes and to go through brochure production as planned.

Otherwise, you may have to spend money, time, and effort on redesign or reproduction. These can be a bane for those who want to save costs, like businesspersons whose enterprises are just on the get go.

Here are the ABCs of brochure printing that you always need to keep in mind:

- Create a design using computer programs available on your desktop.

If you want to design a template from scratch, you can use Microsoft Publisher or Adobe Photoshop, among other computer programs or design software available. Photoshop can allow you aesthetic control, but Microsoft Publisher is ideal for design beginners. Publisher is easy and simple to use.

It also has design templates that you can choose from. You just need to replace the default elements with the one you have. If you are strapped for time, you can also just download design templates from the internet. There are a lot of design companies that offer templates for a fee, sometimes free. You just need to select carefully for a design template that suits your business image. You can edit the template you downloaded on your computer.

- Prepare the logo, text and images that you need to include.
-
Once you have already finished with the design, you can now decide on which images you may include and how long the text would be. Write a great copy if you are going to introduce your business as well as the products and services you offer. Make the product descriptions concise but engaging. Then you can work what images you want to put based on the text. Make the over-all design seamless. Make sure that every element is consistent with the overall design. Do not forget to include your logo, company slogan or business motto, and the contact information for your business. Include your website, if you have any, so that your readers can visit that.

- Print a test page and proofread before doing an actual print.

Before you produce the brochures en masse, make sure that it has been edited, proofread, and review. There should not be any errors, whether in spelling, grammar, formatting, and framing, among other major concerns. Print a test page of your final draft. Look for all the mistakes and then make the necessary changes. From front to back, have a keen eye on misspellings, wrong names and numbers, among others. Once you have guaranteed zero mistakes, you can go on with mass production. You do not want to reprint everything if you have spotted major errors. It is always a waste of money as well as resources. In addition, time delay. Also, save a file of your final revision, so that you can it for reprints in the future.
