Tips for Improving Your Article Marketing Campaign

By: Lisa Alexander

What is Keyword Density?

From a previous article I wrote, specifically on keyword density, keyword density is a combination of the number of times a keyword or keyword phrase appears on a web page, in quantity with other words. The more times the keyword appears, the greater the overall keyword density.

This applies to article writing, which will be published on an ezine, blog or part of website content.

The first tip, for improving your article marketing campaign, of course is by using a keyword density strategy. This can be, for example, what I just did in this paragraph. I repeated the title of the article in the first sentence. I repeated “tip for improving your article marketing campaign”, and now that’s the third time it’s mentioned.

Google, Yahoo, MSN and most major search engines will be more drawn to this article because of the importance placed on those words or phrases; however you need to be careful of keyword stuffing!

What is Keyword Stuffing?

Simply put, it’s an article or any type of web content (blog, forum post, article … etc) that repeatedly uses the keyword or words for the only purpose of grabbing the attention of major search engines, and doesn’t truly provide a value to the content.

Search engines don’t like that and either do people trying to find legitimate content!

The best tip is, to use your keywords or phrases a hand full of times. Make sure your article makes sense when you read it, and don’t overdo it! You don’t want to use keywords so much, that it becomes harmful to your marketing campaign.

Another tip is, to become part of the fast growing social media network.

What is Social Media?

It is social networking, like Twitter, Digg, Facebook, FriendFeed … etc. You essentially participate on a more casual and social level. How this works, is you make sure your URL to your article, or website, is in your profile. Write compelling and valuable free information surrounding your niche.

There is more chance to build trust by utilizing social networking. You sometimes even make pretty good friends along the way!

While socializing online, you can still use a touch of keyword density in your posts. This also points Google and other search engines in your direction, but don’t use keyword density here as much as you would your own article. A couple of times, repeating a keyword or phrase will suffice.

Remember, it is a more casual place and suppose to be fun, engaging and a place to build trust by offering legitimate information with value.

Another solid tip is, to pick a few good ezine article sites to publish your piece of writing. Commonly people will enter their article into a general ezine, which isn’t a bad idea, but if you can find a website who hosts articles based in your niche, that is the best place to get the word out.

For example, if you have an article about a really good recipe you have discovered. You want to share it with the world! Would you go to a sports ezine and put it there? I don’t think you would. You may, however, want to go and post it to a website that specializes in cooking.

I know it may feel like you’ve narrowed your potential audience and the truth is, you have, and that is a good thing. It’s better to market to those who are truly interested in what you have to offer, rather than working twice as hard marketing to a broader audience, who is not looking for tips on cooking.

Lastly, don’t be afraid to contact big companies who publish articles. We’ll go back to the cooking piece example. How about trying to contact Better Homes and Gardens, or other big name companies who have both online and offline publications, with millions of loyal readers.

It never hurts to try, and the worst you’ll get is no response, but imagine if you did get a welcome letter! That would be very exciting!
