What To Do About Temptation

Let's face it we all face to temptation no matter how old or how young we are. While as an adult, my temptation might be to spend too much money, a teen girl may struggle with going too far sexually with her boyfriend, and a younger child may struggle with telling little white lies. No matter what the case temptation is real and it can cause us to sin.

So, how do we keep from letting temptation get best of us? Most of us know what our biggest temptations are, they haunt us, they come back again and again and they may make us feel ashamed. The truth is you can overcome temptation. The Bible says so in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

We can stand against temptation, but what is necessary is being willing to do so. You must be willing to do what it takes to put temptation in its place. The Bible tells us what this is as well. The key to overcoming temptation is to flee. 2 Timothy 2:22 says, "Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart." That is what temptation is after all, "evil desires". We know this is true because nothing evil comes from God, so it must come from the devil. And God's word tells us to "resist the devil and he will flee from you." So either way getting away from temptation involves fleeing.

Never put yourself into a situation that you know will cause you temptation. Just stay away from it in the first place and you will be keeping yourself from not only sinning but being tempted to do so in the first place.

Temptation is not inevitable, it can be controlled, but only if you are in control of your life, and you're allowing GOD to control you rather than the devil. Be sure that you know who is in control and you will be sure to stay on track.
