Why do I Need a Blog for my Site?

By: Corrie Petersen

I had a question that was posed to me this weekend and it made me do a lot of thinking. The question was this: Why do I need a blog for my site?

This question came from a person that's new to marketing online, but wants to grow and have a successful business. She had a lot of questions about this process, so I thought the best way to handle it would be to write an article to help her.

Your website is a great way to show people the products or services you offer. You can go into detail on what you offer and your website will give you the ability to allow them to purchase right there while they're on the site. What your website won't allow you to do is share tips that show your market how your products or services can help them, you won't be able to show your market why they should buy from you, and you can't share information about your company and your products.

Creating a blog and posting those kinds of messages to it will give you the ability to do all of those things on a regular basis. You'll have the ability to place your blog in front of your market on a daily basis. You'll also have the ability show your market that you're an expert in your field through the posts you make.

When you create a blog the best thing to do is use a paid service so you have the ability to use more functions with it and have it reach the search engines. A free site is Blogger or a version of WordPress and a paid site is through WordPress. The paid version of WordPress requires you to purchase a domain name and pay for hosting. When you do those two things you'll have full use of the WordPress program. You'll be able to use free and paid themes, you'll be able to use all the different plugins and widgets, and you'll be able to have the search engines crawl your site so you can be on the search engines for others to find you easily.

While it’s very important to have a website for your business, it’s also important to have a blog for your business. If you’re in direct sales, you don’t have control over the site the company supplies to you. This means you can’t make any changes to it and you don’t have the ability to highlight certain products and share specific information with your visitors. That’s where a blog comes into play.

A blog will give you the ability to do all of those things and so many more. With a blog you have control over the way it looks and what you put on it. You have the ability to post what you want, say what you want, and post as often as you want. When you use it to your advantage you’ll see the growth you want and you’ll be able to reach your goals.
