How a Theme Calendar can Help you Blog

By: Corrie Petersen

I have been blogging for the past four years and I’ll tell you what, I have learned a lot in that amount of time. One of the things that has hindered my blog is the ability to come up with topics. I have so many things to say, but I don’t know what to write and in what order they need to be placed. It was so hard, but over time I have learned some things.

The first thing that got to me when it came to my blog was what people thought about my posts. I was worried about writing things that were wrong. I quickly learned that’s not the case because it’s my blog and I can write whatever I want and whenever I want. I can post as often as I want because it’s my blog.

I have learned in the last three months that there is one thing that will help me blog on a regular basis. That one thing is a theme calendar. Three months ago I took the time to create a theme calendar. Each day had a topic to write about and I’ll tell you what it has made a world of difference. I can go to that calendar and easily write a blog post in a short amount of time. There’s really no thinking involved with the exception of the post itself.

I use topics that are specifically related to my blog in general, holidays, things going on either online or offline, and anything else that comes to mind. Something else that helps is when you come up with one or two topics that you write about on that specific day. An example of this would be Menu Monday on my mommy blog or Writing Wednesday on my article blog. On my article blog I have come up with two topics for each day and I rotate them. This helps keep things going on your blog and will help you with lack of ideas for topics.

I use Google calendars for my theme calendars. When I create the topic for each day I set it as an all day event so it doesn’t matter what time of the day it is I will see the topic. If you need reminders you can set up reminders via text, popup, and email so you’re sure to get the reminder.

Theme calendars are very helpful with your blog. I have doubled my page views in the last 13 days compared to the last four months. With that information, I know how crucial it is to continue to blog every day. If you want to have success with your blog, a theme calendar is the way to go.
